Gold Medal Predictions: Expert Picks for the 2024 Paris Olympics
The 2024 Paris Olympics are around the corner. The athletes who are to represent their countries in what is probably the biggest sports event in the world are facing the last months of training.
This year’s Games will be with us slightly earlier than usual since this year; we only have to endure three years of waiting rather than the normal four. The Games of 2020 in Tokyo were postponed and completed a year later, but now we’re on the regular schedule again.
The 2024 Paris Olympics will be different to other Games
This year’s Olympics will be a little different from any other that has been completed in the past, as four new sports have been added to the events set to take place.
Some have already made an appearance at the Games in a previous edition, with Sport Climbing returning after a successful event in Tokyo. Skateboarding also debuted in Japan as an Olympic sport, as will surfing – despite calls for it to have been considered a discipline at the Games as early as the 1920s.
However, one new sport that will be showcased in Paris this year will be breaking. Perhaps better known as breakdancing, breaking is a form of urban dance that has since become very popular globally. It originated in the US and emerged in the 1970s, but it has since been enjoyed widely in various international competitions. Now, in 2024, it’s time for it to take center stage at the Olympics.
Which countries are expected to lead the Gold Medal Charts?
While it’s always an incredible watch to see the many athletes from around the world showcase their skills and provide viewers with inspiration and entertainment, many take a look at other aspects of the events that take place.
Many like to keep an eye on the gold medals that are obtained by each country, looking closely at who comes out on top. This can be a way to take a look at which nations are perhaps the best at each individual sport, or give people an idea about where the best athletes come from.
Given its competitive nature, it’s perhaps not a surprise that it has caught the attention of betting enthusiasts, either. There are many who like to engage in sports betting during the Olympic Games, and the race for the most Gold Medals is usually a favored future market for so many.
Currently, the favorites to win the most golds at Paris 2024 is Team USA, with odds of 1.15, thus making them the overwhelming favorites. It’s not surprising, though, as they usually sit atop of the leaderboard. Elsewhere, China are considered 5.50 second favorites, with France third at 81.00.
Will Team USA win the Most Gold Medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics?
Team USA have been the most dominant when it has come to Olympic history, although it’s possible you could make several arguments as to why this is the case. Nonetheless, this is factual and can’t be disputed.
Throughout the Games’ history, they have amassed a total of 2,985 medals, more than double that of the next best, Germany, who have obtained 1,083. The United Kingdom sits third with 965, with France on 910 overall.
In terms of Gold medals, the USA have managed to obtain 1,183 in their lifetime, with Germany’s 351 the next best. At the 2020 Tokyo Games, things were a lot closer, though. They had managed 39 Golds but were only one better than China’s 38. This is why the odds suggest that these two are likely to be the main contenders again this time.
Adding the fact that breaking is a new sport and has its origin in the US, it wouldn’t be a shock if Team USA could grab another Gold from this competition. If so, this could make the difference of being the first on the table.
Expect anything and everything
But considering that athletes from all over the world prove that they are talented regardless of where they come from, this year’s Games will be one of the most competitive and interesting to watch—maybe even unpredictable in some places.
Whatever happens, most will certainly be excited just to see what happens in this celebration of sport!
