American Idol Star and Grammy Award Winner Mandisa Dies at 47
Grammy award winner and American Idol contestant in season 5, Mandisa has been found mysteriously dead at her home in Franklin at the age of 47.
A representative of Mandisa confirmed that Mandisa was found deceased in her home, and the cause of her death was unknown. They also added that the family of Mandisa needs prayers from everyone during that difficult time.
The reason for the death of Mandisa is still not available. The Police department in Franklin opened an investigation regarding her demise. As per some reports, Mandisa was in a stage of depression after the death of her close friend due to cancer.
Her friends, fellow musicians, and fans expressed their grief and paid tribute to her through social media. The former American Idol contestant Danny Gokey posted that he was devastated by the loss of Mandisa.
Mandisa was born in California and started her music career by participating as a contestant in the reality show American Idol Season 5. On that show, Mandisa was praised by the judges Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, and Randy Jackson on the song performances of Steve Wonder’s “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing” and Chaka Kkan’s “I’m Every Woman.”
She was eliminated in the Top 9. After her elimination from the show, she performed on the TV talk show ‘Live with Regis and Kelly’ with the song “I Don’t Hurt Anymore.” The first full-length album of Mandisa’s “True Beuty” was released on July 31, 2007, which became number one on the Top Christian Albums. It is also marked as the new female artist’s No.1 in the Chart after 27 years of history.
Mandisa released several albums throughout her musical career. Her popular albums include “It’s Christmas,” “Freedom,” “What if We Were Real,” “Overcomer,” “Out of the Dark, and “Overcomer: The Greatest Hits.”
The talented musician was nominated for Grammy Awards five times in Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album and Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Album. She won one Grammy Award in 2014 for the album “Overcomer.”
Mandisa was among the five American Idol former contestants who won Grammy Awards, including Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Tori Kelly, and Jennifer Hudson.
She collaborated with famous artists in her music career, including Jon Reddick, TobyMac, Matter West, Michael W. Smith, and Kirk Franklin.
Mandisa faced ups and downs in her career and her personal life. In 2014, the loss of her close friend made her experience depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts, and she eventually disappeared from the public eye.
After that phase, she made a return in 2017 through a memoir, “Out of the Dark: My Journey Through the Shadows to Find God’s Joy,” which chronicles the experience of her depression, and she called it a “deep dark” period.
