Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana Decided to End their Marriage After 13 Years
The royal couple of Greece, Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana, announced their divorce 13 years after marriage. They shared the decision through an official statement on the channel of the Greek royal family on April 19.
In that press release, it is stated that the two of them decided to break down the marriage, and both expressed the difficulty of the decision. They reached the conclusion with mutual respect and greater care. It also continued that their future interactions will continue with the same principles of respect and understanding. They continue to be active in Greece, where they feel at home.
The statement expressed the support given to the critical decision and highlighted the family’s support to get through the phase. Their separation announcement was a surprise to some royal watchers.
The news came just two months after Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana attended the Thanksgiving of Nikolaos’ father, King Constantine, the last king of Greece who ruled Greece until 1973 before the abolition. The pair appeared arm-in-arm at St. George’s Chapel in February at Windsor Castle. The royal Greek and British family members came together for this ceremony.
The engagement of the couple was confirmed in December 2009 by Nikolaos’ father with a simple statement that HM Queen Anne-Marie and he were delighted to announce the engagement of their son Nikolaos and Tatiana.
Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana tied the knot in 2010 at the Cathedral of Ayios Nikolaos on the island of Spetses. Several royals attended their wedding, including future kings Felipe VI of Spain, Crown Princess of Victoria of Sweden, and William-Alexander of the Netherlands.
The bride wore the antique corsage tiara given by Queen Anne-Marie at their wedding. She wore an ivory Angel Sanchez wedding gown with an overlay lace and a full-length veil. She paired the dress with a diamond drop earrings.
After their wedding, Tatiana said that she didn’t feel like a princess or like marrying a prince. She added that he was her prince, nothing more, and she considered it a privilege and honor to be part of the family.
In another conversation, she admitted that being a part of the royal family made an impact on her life. She said that she followed a normal life and always welcomed her followers and the Greek people with open arms.
The couple didn’t have children during their time together. However, in a comment, she expressed her joy as an aunt. She said that being an aunt was one of the blessings in her life. Her niece and nephew filled joy and happiness in their family. She continued by saying that they were teaching her new things.
