Ellen DeGeneres faced a lot of controversy due to the allegation of her toxic workplace environment on her talk show ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show.’ During a stand-up gig in Los Angeles, the comedian opened up about the after-effects of the controversy and its impact on her career.
During her performance, she said, “The hate went on for a long time.” she also added that she tried to avoid looking at the news. Ellen admitted that it was challenging, and she struggled professionally and mentally. She said, “The be a kind girl wasn’t kind; that was the headline.”
In the Q&A section, Ellen admitted she had a hard time and didn’t get out much of that controversy. She explained that it also affected her wife, Portia de Rossi, and they went through it together.
Ellen faced the allegation in 2020 when ten former employees of her talk show described the toxic work environment, including harassment, racism, aggressive behavior, and bullying. The report affected the show’s viewership when it came to the public.
Ellen made a personal apology to the staff, also addressed the allegation in the season 18 opening episode, and publicly apologized. Warner Bros. investigated as per the complaint, which led to the fire of three producers. However, according to the report, that season lost one million viewers.
In 2021, Ellen announced that the show would end after season 19. Her contract expired at that time and wasn’t renewed. At that time, she said that she had decided to end after season 16, but they wanted to sign for another four years.
