‘13 Reasons Why’ Star Dylan Minnette Reveals Why He Quit Acting
Dylan Minnette stepped back from his acting career, and now he has revealed the reason for his decision. The actor is now pursuing his passion for music with his band, Wallows.
In an interview with The Zach Sang Show along with his band members on May 21, the actor addressed why he quit acting. He claimed that he was lucky to find success in acting.
“I was on 13 Reasons Why, and it was really popular and definitely reached a peak in what I’ve had in acting,” he added, “but it also started to feel like a bit of a job.”
He said that acting was always fun and inspiring for him, but after that, he felt it was “like a job.”
Minnette then talked about his never-ending passion for music. He added, “I feel like I’m in a position now where I can just kind of like do that for a while and get this the farthest it can be.”
He shared about his desire to take his music career to the peak by putting “100 percent time and energy into it.” He also expressed that he has to show the world that they all consider the musical journey in a serious way. He said that chasing his passion for music “feels natural and inspiring.”
He also revealed that he considered his return to acting last year, but it didn’t happen due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Minnette said, “I do feel like I have something to give, and that’s probably acting. I feel like I’m starting to feel inspiration for that again.
He continued, “At some point, when we’ve fulfilled our Wallows duties and we’re all ready to take a break as a band, or just take a second, that’s when I’ll have the perfect inspiration to do something.”
Minnette’s acting career started when he was a child. His first role was in a single episode of Nickelodeon’s Drake & Josh. He also appeared in Fred Claus, The Clique, and Snow Buddies. His important film works are Goosebumps, Don’t Breath, and The Open House.
He got a breakthrough by playing the role of Clay Jensen in the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, and the series ran for 4 seasons from 2017 to 2020. After the end of the show, he decided not to be active in the industry. But he last appeared on screen in 2022, in the film Scream and the miniseries The Dropout.
Minnette formed the band Wallows in 2011 with Cole Preston and Braeden Lemaster. On May 10, the band released their latest single, “A Warning,” after releasing three albums.
