Chris Hemsworth in Talks to Feature Lead in ‘Transformers’ and ‘G.I. Joe’ Crossover Movie

Chris Hemsworth is in talks to star as the lead in another blockbuster franchise. According to reports, he will join the upcoming Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie from Paramount.

The crossover movie between the two franchises was first hinted at in the recently released film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and it was officially confirmed during this year’s CinemaCon by Paramount.

The details regarding Hermsworth’s character in the crossover movie remain scarce at this time. The untitled movie will follow up on the latest installment of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, played by Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback in lead roles.

The post-credit scene of the movie teased the crossover, which shows Noah (Anthony Ramos) meeting Agent Burke (played by Michael Kelly), a shady government operative. Burke hands over a business card to Noah, and it is revealed that Burke is working for the G.I. Joes, a special team of commandos. The two brands have worked together before for Marvel Comics, but this is the first time they have come together on the big screen.

At the premiere of ‘Rise of the Beasts’ the producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura stated, “Noah goes from somebody who cannot get a job to a guy who gets the greatest job ever. It really felt organic to put it in here because you could relate it to the story.”

He further added, “It didn’t feel like we were being cynical and like, ‘Good news, we could just jam G.I. Joes in here.” and continued, “It took us a while to figure out the Maximals, and now we have the hint of how to begin the Joes story.”

The upcoming movie will be produced by Mark Vahradian, Di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy, while Steven Speilberg and Hasbro Entertainment serve as executive producers. No director name is currently attached to the film, and the plot details are also yet to be revealed.

The new movie will be Hermsworth’s second ‘Transformers’ role, as he voiced the character of young Optimus Prime in the animated film ‘Transformers One, which is set to release in theaters in September. Hemsworth played the character of Thor in the MCU’s film of the same name in 2011, and he reprised the role in several subsequent movies.

He recently appeared as Dementus, an insane villain, in the film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. His upcoming projects are Deadpool & Wolverine and Project X.
