Game of Thrones Prequel ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdom’ Starts Filming and Reveals First Look Photo
The most-waited Game of Thrones prequel, ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdom, finally started its production, as announced by HBO. They also released a first-look image of the series. The filming started in Belfast, Ireland.
The first image of the series showcases Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, who is the lead character in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The other lead actor who was previously confirmed as a cast member is Sol Ansell. Now five new actors have been added to the cast list.
The new cast of the series is Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen, Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen, and Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel.
The series will take place 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It will focus on the adventures of two heroes, Knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire, Egg. It is the adaptation of R.R. Martin’s novella ‘The Hedge Knight’.
The series is written by Martin and Ira Parker, and they also executive produce along with Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Sarah Bradshaw, and Owen Harris. The first three episodes of the series will be directed by EP Owen Harris, who is famous for directing the episodes of Black Mirror, Mrs. Davis, and Brave New World. Sarah Adina Smith also joined the production to direct the last three episodes of the series. She directed the films Buster’s Mal Heart and The Midnight Swim, and her series include Hanna, Looking for Alaska, and Lessons in Chemistry.
Game of Thrones prequel series development was first reported in January 2021, and HBO officially confirmed it in April 2023. In February 2024, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, confirmed that pre-production had started.
The network has not yet confirmed the official release date of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, but it is expected to premiere on HBO in 2025.
The fantasy drama Game of Thrones has gained record viewership since its release. It was created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss based on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire. The series premiered on HBO in April 2011 and concluded after eight seasons in 2019.
It largely received positive reviews from critics and the audience and was considered one of the best television series of all time. The series grabbed 59 Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series. Its prequel series titled House of the Dragon was released on HBO in 2022, and the second season started to premiere on June 16.
