Early Life
Kelly was born to Linda and Edward Kelly on November 18, 1970, in Champaign, Illinois. Her father taught in the School of Education at the State University of New York at Albany, and her mother was a homemaker. She grew up with her siblings and was raised Catholic. When she was 15, her father died of a heart attack.
Kelly attended Tecumseh Elementary School, and at the age of 9, her family moved to Delmar, New York. There, she continued her studies at Bethlehem Central High School. In 1992, Kelly earned her undergraduate degree in political science from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. In 1995, she obtained a J.D. from Albany Law School. After that, she started working as an associate attorney at the law firm Bickel & Brewer LLP in Chicago.

After working in the legal profession for nine years, Kelly started her television career in 2003. She was appointed a general assignment reporter on WJLA-TV, covering national and local events.
One year later, she was hired by Fox News and appeared in the show’s Special Report with Brit Hume and Kelly’s Court. In 2010, she became the host of her show, America Live. She received media attention after covering the 2012 United States presidential election result.
In 2013, she started hosting The Kelly File, which frequently became one of the top-rated programs on Fox News. In 2017, after her contract had expired, Kelly departed from Fox and joined NBC.
