In a recent interview on the Rich Roll Podcast, Holland revealed that he and his co-star (and real-life girlfriend) Zendaya have already read an early draft of the script, and he’s more than a little excited about what’s in store.
“We have a creative, a pitch, and a draft, which is excellent,” Holland said. “It needs work, but the writers are doing a fantastic job, and I read it three weeks ago. It really lit a fire in me.”
The actor went on to describe the experience of reading the script with Zendaya, saying they were “bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.'”
While Holland remained tight-lipped on specific plot details, he did emphasize that the creative team is committed to delivering a story that does justice to the character and respects the franchise’s passionate fanbase.
“I feel very protective over Spider-Man,” Holland told Collider last year. “I feel extremely fortunate that we have had the opportunity to work on a franchise that has become better and more successful with each movie, a rare occurrence in my opinion, and I am committed to safeguarding his legacy.” Therefore, I will not produce another movie just for its own sake. It must be worth the character’s time.
That dedication to upholding the integrity of the Spider-Man character and his world is clearly shaping the development of “Spider-Man 4.” Holland acknowledged the “great responsibility” that comes with portraying such an iconic superhero, saying he’s in constant dialogue with the studio to ensure they get it right.
“With Marvel, it’s important to remember that your film serves as a minor component within a larger system, and it must remain operational,” he clarified. “And you need to make sure you can fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture. That’s one of the challenges we’re facing. The timeframe we have set for completing that task is challenging, but it is undoubtedly attainable with the exceptional team currently working on it.

“It’s meant I’ve had to put my foot down in certain instances, which I haven’t been allowed to do in the past, and I think the learning curve that I’m on right now is dealing with that new sense of power—making sure that I don’t abuse it but [also] making sure that I do the best thing for me rather than for the studio,” Holland said. “And really, it’s about doing what’s best for the character.”
