A new installment of Tyler Perry’s popular “Why Did I Get Married” film franchise may be on the horizon, if recent social media activity from the cast is any indication.
It all started when Richard T. Jones, who played Mike in the films, shared a video on TikTok on Friday, October 18th. The clip features Jones on a flight with the caption, “POV: I had to make Sheila drive again.” See you on the mountain, though.” The post quickly went viral, amassing over 1.5 million likes and sparking a frenzy among fans.
The video seemed to kick off a chain reaction, as Jill Scott, who portrayed Sheila, responded the next day on Instagram. In character, she expressed her frustration, saying, “I cannot believe that Mike would do this to me again. Well, let me tell you something—I’m going to ascend this mountain.”
Tasha Smith, Scott’s co-star, responded enthusiastically to her post, writing, “I’m going to gut Mike like a fish,” and accompanying it with laughing emojis. Smith and her on-screen husband, Michael Jai White, later shared their own video response, with Smith lamenting, “I’m so sick of him. I am so sick of him. Marcus! “Can you believe he did this to Sheila again?”
Not to be outdone, Sharon Leal, who played Diane, the wife of Tyler Perry’s character Terry, also chimed in, boasting about how she’s a “good wife” who hasn’t forgotten her husband’s birthday.
And Denise Boutte, who portrayed the character Trina, asked for redemption, playing Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé’s “Savage Remix” in the background of her video.
With the cast members’ playful interactions generating significant buzz on social media, fans are eagerly awaiting any official word from Tyler Perry himself. The director-writer-producer has not shared a video response, but he did post a cryptic image that appears to be a draft titled “Why Did I Get Married Again?”
In 2007, the critical and commercial success of the original “Why Did I Get Married?” film led to the creation of a sequel, “Why Did I Get Married Too?” in 2010. While Perry later created a TV spinoff, “For Better or Worse,” which ran for six seasons and focused on the characters of Angela and Marcus, fans have been clamoring for a return of the original ensemble cast.
So, what exactly do fans want to see in a potential third installment of the “Why Did I Get Married” franchise? Here are five key things:
- A deeper exploration of the couples’ relationships and the challenges they face
- There are more hilarious and relatable moments between the friends.
- The characters have grown and evolved from the previous films.
- Beloved supporting characters such as Trina make appearances.
- The conclusion ties up any lingering storylines in a satisfying manner.
With the cast members already teasing their characters’ return, the anticipation for “Why Did I Get Married 3?” is palpable. Fans will be eagerly awaiting any official announcements from Tyler Perry, hoping to see their favorite dysfunctional yet loving group of friends back on the big screen once again.
