Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s web-slinging hero can rejoice, as Tom Holland has officially confirmed the production of Spider-Man 4, set to begin filming next summer.
In a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” the 26-year-old actor shared the exciting news, stating, “Next summer, we start shooting. Everything’s good to go—we’re nearly there. Super exciting. I can’t wait!”
This announcement comes as a much-anticipated addition to the ever-expanding MCU, following the success of the previous Spider-Man trilogy, which culminated in the critically acclaimed “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
“No Way Home” saw the return of previous Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in a crossover event that left fans captivated. Holland called the experience “the highlight of my career” and praised the team’s ability to keep the secret under wraps.
“We were in a bubble,” he said. “Tobey and Andrew would come to set in like a cloak; it was like something out of ‘Star Wars.’ It was hilarious.”
While details about the fourth installment’s plot remain under wraps, Holland teased that the script “really lit a fire in me” and that he and his co-star Zendaya “at times were bouncing around the living room, like this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.”
Destin Daniel Cretton, the filmmaker behind the recent Marvel hit “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” will take over the director’s chair for Spider-Man 4. This change in leadership could signal a fresh creative direction for the beloved character.
Fans have long speculated about the potential introduction of Miles Morales, the alternate Spider-Man from the acclaimed “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” animated film. Holland has expressed his desire to bring Morales into the MCU, stating, “If I were lucky enough to somehow bring Miles Morales into my Spider-Man universe and into the MCU, I’d love to do for a young kid what [Robert Downey Jr.] did for me.”
