It’s safe to say that Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has well and truly surpassed every single expectation fans had. The tour officially kicked off in Glendale, Arizona, on March 17th, where Taylor performed songs from all 10 of her albums. But just when fans thought they had the setlist figured out, the pop superstar has pulled the rug out from under them with a major shakeup.
Introducing “The Tortured Poets Department”
Since the Eras Tour began, Taylor has released her eleventh studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” and she’s now incorporated seven tracks from that record into the setlist. But in order to make room for the new material, Taylor has removed some fan-favorite songs from the show.
“The Eras Tour set list features a mix of her highest charting songs, lead singles, fan favorites, outright bangers, and tracks that stand out as milestones in her incredible career so far,” explained Taylor during her show in Arlington, Texas, on March 31st.
A Brand New Setlist Order
On May 9th in Paris, Taylor completely revamped the Eras Tour setlist, changing the order of the “eras” sections and removing six songs from the original lineup. The new setlist order is as follows: “Lover,” “Fearless,” “Red,” “Speak Now,” “Reputation,” “Folklore and Evermore” (now combined), “1989,” “The Tortured Poets Department,” Surprise Songs, and “Midnights.”
What Songs Made The Cut?
Taylor’s new Eras Tour setlist clocks in at a whopping 45 tracks, with some songs being performed in shortened versions. The list includes hits like “Cruel Summer,” “The Man,” “You Belong With Me,” and “All Too Well (10-Minute Version),” as well as deep cuts like “But Daddy, I Love Him,” “Down Bad,” and “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.” “The concert is a whole different beast… The concert is a whopping 3 hours and 15 minutes long, and Taylor performs a huge 45 tracks within that timeframe,” said one concertgoer.
Surprise Song Extravaganza
As with her previous tours, Taylor has continued the tradition of performing two surprise acoustic songs at each show. The list of surprise songs performed so far is extensive, ranging from fan favorites like “Sparks Fly” and “Getaway Car” to deep cuts like “Right Where You Left Me” and “Closure.”
Taylor has also introduced a new element to the surprise song segment: mashups. Concertgoers in Indianapolis were treated to a unique blend of “The Prophecy” from “The Tortured Poets Department” and “This Love” from “1989,” as well as a mix of “Maroon” and “Cowboy Like Me.”
Setlist Changes And Removals
While the Eras Tour setlist remained relatively consistent throughout 2023, Taylor’s recent setlist shakeup has fans abuzz. Six songs have been permanently removed from the lineup, including “The Archer,” “Long Live,” “The 1,” “The Last Great American Dynasty,” “Tis The Damn Season,” and “Tolerate It.”
The “Folklore” and “Evermore” sections have also been combined, as they are considered “sister” albums. And of course, the seven new tracks from “The Tortured Poets Department” have been added to the setlist.
What’s Next?
As Taylor prepares to tackle the final legs of the Eras Tour, fans are eager to see if she has any more surprises in store. With only two more legs to go—Europe and the second U.S. and Canada run—the setlist is sure to continue evolving.
“After almost two months off, she may have something up her sleeve for the last few shows,” teased one insider. Whether Taylor sticks with the new setlist order or mixes things up again, one thing is certain: her Eras Tour continues to be a must-see event for Swifties around the world.
