I’m here to share an exciting update on the personal life of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. On Tuesday, the 33-year-old Gypsy Rose: Life After Lockup star revealed the results of a paternity test for her baby, confirming that her boyfriend Ken Urker is the father.
The Paternity Reveal
Back in July, Gypsy Rose announced that she and Urker were expecting their first child together. However, some fans grew suspicious about the timing of the pregnancy, given that Gypsy Rose had filed for divorce from her ex-husband Ryan Anderson just four months prior in March.
To address the speculation, Gypsy Rose took to Instagram to share the paternity test results. “There’s been a lot of chatter around the paternity of our baby, and while we’ve known for sure from the beginning, I feel that it’s finally time to put all these theories to rest,” she wrote. The test confirmed that Urker is the father, and Gypsy Rose expressed her excitement, stating, “Ken is going to be an incredible dad, and we are so excited to welcome our baby girl into the world.”
The Legal Technicalities
While some commenters felt Gypsy Rose didn’t need to justify her private life, the paternity test results do help clarify some important legal technicalities under Louisiana law. According to a Louisiana attorney who spoke to the outlet, state law requires that if the mother has been divorced for less than 300 days at the time of the baby’s birth, the ex-husband would be listed as the “presumed” father.
This implies that, even though Anderson is not the biological father, his name could have automatically appeared on the baby’s birth certificate without the certified paternity test results. “The only way Urker’s name will go on the birth certificate is if Anderson signs an affidavit that Urker is the father,” the attorney explained. If Anderson fails to sign the affidavit, and Urker desires his name to appear on the birth certificate, he must submit a motion to the courts. The courts will then require all three parties to undergo a DNA test, which they have already completed.
Reuniting with Her Ex-Fiancé
Gypsy Rose’s pregnancy journey has been an eventful one. She first shared the news of her pregnancy with Urker back in July, revealing that they were “so excited to welcome our baby girl into the world.” The two have a long history, as Urker was Gypsy Rose’s ex-fiancé before she married Anderson while in prison.
“Ken and I reconnected as friends. It wasn’t like, Jump out of a marriage and then let me meet up with you, and boom, we’re in a relationship,” Gypsy Rose explained in a previous interview. “We had kept a friendship for the longest time. He was in a relationship. I was with Ryan, and so we were living different lives with respect to our partners—a ‘wish you the best’ type of thing.”
Since rekindling their romance after Gypsy Rose’s release from prison, the couple has been navigating the challenges of their relationship, including Gypsy Rose’s parole restrictions that prevent them from living together. “I’m going to be living there until I’m off parole. So we’re like, okay, how is this going to work whenever the baby’s born? How many days can I spend with you, and how many can you spend with me?” Gypsy Rose asked. Gypsy Rose said.
Despite the obstacles, it’s clear that Gypsy Rose and Urker are excited to embark on this new chapter of their lives and welcome their baby girl into the world. Congratulations to the delighted couple!
