Early Life
Helbig was born in Woodbury, New Jersey, on September 27, 1985. She is the daughter of Theresa McGinnis and John Helbig and has two brothers, John and Tim. She attended Gateway Regional High School in Woodbury Heights, New Jersey, where she was a track star and won a medal in pole vaulting.
In 2003, Helbig joined Ramapo College in New Jersey, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in digital filmmaking from Ramapo’s School of Contemporary Arts. At that time, she created a sketch comedy group with her best friend, Baked Goods. She then joined the Peoples Improv Theatre to take improv classes. In 2005, she reached the semi-finals of the Miss New Jersey USA pageant.
Professional Career
Helbig started her professional career in 2007 by sharing her house-sitting experience through daily vlogs on her personal YouTube channel, GracieHlnABox. In March 2008, Helberg created the Grace n’ Michelle YouTube channel with her college roommate Michelle Akin. In that same year, she became the narrator of My Damn Channel’s animated web series Bedtime Stories. After that, she became the host of her video blog series, DailyGrace, on the My Damn Channel website in April 2008.
DailyGrace launched its own YouTube channel in 2010, reaching over 2.4 million subscribers by the end of 2013.
