I’m excited to share the latest details on the star-studded cast of the upcoming comedy “Splitsville” from Neon and Topic Studios. This highly anticipated film has just added three acclaimed actors to its ensemble—Nicholas Braun, David Castañeda, and O-T Fagbenle—rounding out an already impressive lineup.
Michael Angelo Covino, who is reuniting with his “The Climb” collaborator Kyle Marvin, directs and stars in the recently wrapped film. Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona, and the newly announced trio will join them.
In “Splitsville,” Arjona plays Ashley, a woman who asks her husband Carey, played by Marvin, for a divorce. This sets off a chain of events as Carey turns to his friends Julie (Johnson) and Paul (Covino) for support. To Carey’s surprise, he discovers that the secret to their happiness is an open marriage—a revelation that ends up throwing all of their relationships into chaos.
Braun, renowned for his Emmy-nominated role as Cousin Greg on the popular HBO series “Succession,” is currently teasing the details of a new role. The actor has been keeping busy, with recent appearances in “Saturday Night” and the upcoming films “Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie” and Ruben Östlund’s “The Entertainment System Is Down.”
Castañeda, who has gained fame for his role as Diego Hargreeves on Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy,” is also set to appear in “Splitsville,” though his specific part is being kept secret as well. Castañeda has an exciting year ahead, with a role in the “John Wick” spin-off “Ballerina” scheduled for release in 2025.
Rounding out the new cast additions is Fagbenle, an Emmy-nominated actor for his work on Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Apple TV+’s “Presumed Innocent” and Netflix’s comedy “No Good Deed” will soon feature Fagbenle.
Topic Studios developed the project as part of a multi-year first look deal with Covino and Marvin, following their collaboration on Covino’s directorial debut, “The Climb.” Neon and Topic Studios previously teamed up on Brandon Cronenberg’s “Infinity Pool.”
Neon will handle the domestic release of “Splitsville,” while Neon International will represent worldwide sales rights at the upcoming American Film Market (AFM). We expect the film to hit theaters sometime in 2025.
Covino and Marvin are producing the project alongside Emily Korteweg under their production banner, Watch This Ready. Johnson, Ro Donnelly, and Samantha Racanelli are also producing for TeaTime Pictures, with Arjona and Paul Barbeau serving as executive producers.
With its talented ensemble cast and the proven filmmaking duo of Covino and Marvin at the helm, “Splitsville” is shaping up to be a must-see comedy event. Fans of these actors, as well as those who enjoy smart, character-driven stories, will surely be eager to see how this unconventional tale of relationships unfolds on the big screen.
As a news reporter, I’m thrilled to share this exciting update with you. Stay tuned for further updates on “Splitsville” as Neon and Topic Studios prepare for its 2025 release. This is certainly a project to add to your watchlist!
