Ivanka Trump was largely absent from her father Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, but she supported him on the sidelines. The 43-year-old socialite celebrated her father’s victory at the Republican National Convention in July and on Election Night at Mar-a-Lago. Her presence at these events raises the question of whether she and her husband Jared Kushner will return to Washington, D.C., now that Donald Trump has won the White House again.
Ivanka and Kushner moved to Miami after her father lost the 2020 election, and they seemed to enjoy their high-profile life outside of politics. Ivanka spends her days with her three kids, two dogs, and her 98-year-old grandmother. Ivanka’s idyllic life, filled with charity events and jiu-jitsu lessons, is a stark contrast to the “blood sport” of the political arena, as she described in a July interview.
Ivanka has been “remarkably consistent” about her decision to leave politics, according to Kushner. In November 2022, when Donald Trump announced his third run for president, Ivanka wrote, “I love my father very much. This time around, I am choosing to prioritize my young children and the private life we are creating as a family. I do not plan to be involved in politics. While I will always love and support my father, going forward I will do so outside the political arena.”
However, Kushner did note that “the world is different for us over the next four years if her father is president.” And some sources suggest Ivanka may make “key appearances” and “support the idea of the American family,” though they say she has no plans to re-enter the political fray.
Ivanka’s outfit choice on Election Night also raised a few eyebrows. While most of the Trump women on the stage wore red or black, Ivanka opted for a blue velvet pantsuit. “An interesting choice,” commented one observer, noting that blue is traditionally associated with the Democratic party. But perhaps Ivanka simply loved the look—after all, if we’re going to read into fashion choices, we’d have to look at what Jill Biden wore to the polls on Tuesday, sporting a tomato red pantsuit from head to toe.
Ivanka appears determined to preserve the private life she has established in Miami. “I’m not willing to make them [her kids] bear that cost,” she said of the political arena. And while she may offer occasional advice or support to her father, those close to her insist she has no plans to return to Washington or the White House.
Jared Kushner, too, is not expected to rejoin the administration, though he is expected to advise the transition team as needed. The couple’s focus appears to be on their family and the comfortable life they’ve created in Florida.
So what will the next four years hold for the former first daughter? It’s likely she’ll continue her work with tech leaders on issues like child safety online and human trafficking—because she championed during her time in the White House. And she may make the occasional public appearance to support her father. However, it appears that Ivanka Trump has had enough of the political spotlight, at least for the time being. She’s choosing to prioritize her family and the “private life we are creating”—a life far removed from the chaos and scrutiny of Washington.
