Gorman was born to British parents in Los Angeles, California, on September 1, 1974. He was the youngest child and had three elder sisters. His father was a linguistics professor at UCLA. When he was seven, his family moved back to England and settled in London.
At a young age, he became passionate about acting. He attended the Manchester School of Theatre at Manchester Metropolitan University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Performance. Gorman started his television acting career in 1998, appearing in the soap opera Coronation Street on ITV. In the series, he played the character of Etheric Foundation cult leader Ben Andrews. He appeared in 16 episodes.
