In a move that’s sure to have country music fans and reality TV junkies buzzing, “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan has teamed up with country superstar Blake Shelton for a brand new singing competition series called “The Road.” CBS has picked up the series as part of its fall 2025 lineup, offering viewers an unfiltered look at the “gritty and unforgiving life of a touring artist.”
According to the network’s press release, “The Road” will follow a big-name music headliner as they search for the next rising star. Aspiring singers will join the established artist on tour, performing as opening acts in venues across the United States. These up-and-coming performers will then compete to win over local fanbases in each city, hoping to secure a spot on the tour for the next leg of the journey.
“‘The Road’ offers viewers a backstage pass into the behind-the-scenes workings of the music industry,” the release states. “With exclusive access, viewers will see what happens when some of the best up-and-coming performers pile into a tour bus and tackle a grueling schedule in pursuit of their dreams.”
Sheridan, the creative force behind the wildly popular “Yellowstone” universe, expressed his excitement about the project, saying, “There is a revolution taking place in country music. Building a platform with Blake for the next leaders of that revolution is an incredibly exciting venture.”
He went on to tease the show’s unique format, promising, “No more shiny floors and studio audiences. This is where the real work begins. Get in the van, go to the next town, and win the crowd. Do it enough, and you become the next leader. Simple as that.”
Thanks to his long tenure as a coach on “The Voice,” Blake Shelton, a veteran of the reality TV singing competition circuit, expressed his eagerness to help discover new talent and provide them with this unique opportunity.
“I’m a big fan of Taylor’s incredible work, and I’m excited to team with him and my long-time collaborator, Lee, on ‘The Road,'” Shelton shared. “I have extensive experience in singing competitions and understand the challenges of pursuing a music career and touring.” I’m looking forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform.”
MTV Entertainment Studios, David Glasser’s 101 Studios, and Shelton and Lee Metzger’s Lucky Horseshoe Productions are producing the series. In addition to Sheridan and Shelton, the executive producer team includes Glasser and Metzger, who previously worked as an executive producer on “The Voice.”
“Taylor, Blake, Lee, and I have been discussing this project for quite some time,” Glasser stated. “I can’t thank CBS enough for supporting us on this journey to bring an incredible project to audiences everywhere.”
Metzger, Shelton’s longtime collaborator, echoed that sentiment, saying, “Blake and I have been working together a long time and now joining forces with Taylor and David is literally the kind of team you dream about to bring something of this scale to country music fans.”
Fans of country music, reality TV, and good old-fashioned showbusiness will find “The Road,” with its gritty, behind-the-scenes approach and star-studded creative team, to be a must-watch. As this highly anticipated series prepares for its debut in fall 2025, stay tuned for more details.
