“Mean Girls” Stars Lacey Chabert and Lindsay Lohan Reunite for a “Fetch” Catchup

As “Mean Girls” fans will forever remember, the Plastics never stop trying to “make fetch happen.” This week, the spirit was evident as stars Lacey Chabert and Lindsay Lohan reunited for a special catch-up.

Lacey And Lindsay’s “Fetch” Reunion

Lohan, 38, shared a photo on her Instagram Story on Thursday, Nov. 14, showing her posing alongside Chabert, 42, her co-star from the iconic 2004 teen comedy. “Fetch catching up with my girl @thereallacey,” Lohan captioned the image, referencing the famous line from the film where Chabert’s character, Gretchen Wieners, desperately tries to make the slang term “fetch” happen.

Chabert reposted the photo, simply writing, “Love you!” in the caption. The Mean Girls reunion comes as both actresses have new holiday projects out on Netflix—Lohan’s “Our Little Secret” and Chabert’s “Hot Frosty.” And Chabert revealed that her new film even includes a humorous nod to Lohan’s role as Cady Heron.

A “Full Circle” Moment For Lacey In “Hot Frosty”

In “Hot Frosty,” Chabert’s character Kathy Barrett remarks that the lead actress in a movie Dustin Milligan’s character is watching looks just like someone she went to high school with—a clear reference to Lohan’s iconic Mean Girls performance.

“I don’t know whose idea it was, but when I heard of the idea of referencing Lindsay … I loved it,” Chabert told Us Weekly. “It’s perfect, and I’m so happy. This is all full circle.” Chabert added that it’s “so nice” that she and Lohan, who have known each other since they were young, both have new Netflix holiday movies out this year.

“We’ve known each other since we were little kids. We’re both moms now,” said Chabert, who shares 8-year-old daughter Julia with husband David Nehdar. “I’m so happy we’re still on the journey together.”

From “Mean Girls” To Holiday Movies

After starring as the endlessly quotable Gretchen Wieners in “Mean Girls,” Chabert‘s career took a turn toward more family-friendly fare, with the actress becoming a staple of Hallmark Channel holiday films.

Despite “Hot Frosty” having a slightly more irreverent tone than Chabert’s usual projects, the actress found personal resonance in the film’s themes of overcoming grief, particularly after the tragic loss of her sister Wendy in 2021.

“There has to be something in every movie I do that I relate [to] and that hits my heart,” Chabert shared. “And for this character, Kathy, she’s trying to overcome her grief [after losing her husband], which is something that’s so relatable and, unfortunately, a situation that so many people find themselves in.”

Dustin Milligan Praises Lacey’s Comedy Chops

Chabert’s co-star in “Hot Frosty,” Dustin Milligan, was full of praise for the actress’ comedic talents, especially her skill with physical comedy. Milligan told Chabert, “I really admired your physical comedy,” explaining that comedy legends like Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton inspired him to develop his klutzy snowman character.

“The discovery and the comedy that came out of that was just so much fun to play,” Milligan said, noting that there was likely an “extra hour and a half” of improvised and blooper footage from their scenes together.

Chabert and Lohan have returned to their “Mean Girls” days with their new Netflix films, but the enduring popularity of that cult classic ensures the Plastics will never truly disappear. As long as there are friends to gather, “fetch” continues.
