The story is set in 1792 during the French Revolution and follows the vampire hunter Richter Belmont, a descendant of Trevor and Syphia. He is joined by his adoptive sister Maria Renard, an aristocrat-turned-revolutionary, Annette, a formerly enslaved person with powers of an African earth god, and Edouard, Annette’s close friend and an opera singer. Together, they attempt to stop the rise of Vampire Messiah.
The mysterious Vampire Messiah turns out to be Erzsebeth Báthory, who has a plan to make the night forever to help vampires avoid hiding from sunlight. In the final episode, Erzsebeth successfully covers the sun with an eclipse and helps the vampires empower the world.
