Rusty’s extramarital affair with Carolyn complicated the matter even worse. In a tense battle with the prosecution and defense, the jury finally finds out that Rusty is not guilty.
In the finale of the series, Rusty and Barbara have a private talk, and he accuses her of killing Carolyn. To protect Barbara, he goes through the trial. But Barbara denied murdering Carolyn. Their daughter Jaden entered into their conversation and admitted that she killed Carolyn.
Jaden shared that she went to Carolyn’s house to warn her to stay away from their family. But Carolyn revealed she was pregnant with Rusty’s baby; after a heated argument, Jordan took a fire poker and hit Carolyn’s head with it several times, which led to her death.
Rusty and Barabara decided to keep it a secret and convinced Jordan that it had happened during the self-defense. The series concluded by showing the family sitting together for dinner and trying to move on from the dark secret.
Considering the plot of the second season, nothing has been revealed yet. However, it will not be the continuation of the murder of Carolyn, as the streamer already revealed that season 2 will return with a brand new case.
