He established business ventures in various fields, including fashion and oil exploration. In 2006, Birdman launched the fashion brand YMCMB with Lil Wayne. Early Life

Birdman was born to Johnnie Williams and Gladys Brooks on February 15, 1969, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and they lived on the top of a bar his father owned. He lost his mother when he was five years old. After the death of his mother, Birdman and his siblings moved with their uncle and spent two years in Prince George, Canada, and for the next two years, they lived in foster care. 

After that, Johnnie and his wife Patricia gained full custody of Birdman and his siblings following a lengthy legal battle, and they eventually moved with Johnnie and Patricia to Central City, New Orleans, where he became close with his stepbrother, Eldrick Wise. Together, they were involved in committing robberies and were caught and arrested at 16 after selling heroin. They were again arrested for drug possession and had been sentenced to three years in prison.

Professional Life

After Birdman was released from prison, he and Slim concentrated on the bounce sub-genre of hip-hop, which quickly got attention in the nightclubs of New Orleans. In 1992, Birdman launched their music label, Cash Money Records. They traveled all over the Louisana nightclubs to find and recruit artists to their label.

Their first signed artist was Kilo G, who released the first horrorcore album, The Sleepwalker (1992). Birdman and Slim recruited more artists, including DJ Mannie Fresh. In 1995, 12-year-old Dwayne Carter signed the label as the youngest artist and placed the group with 14-year-old Christopher Dorsey. They were known as Baby D and Lil Doogie, respectively. 

In  1997, Baby D and Lil Doogie renamed themselves Lil Wayne and B.G., respectively. That same year, they were placed in a new group, Hot Boys, with two new artists, Turk and Juvenile. The Hot Boys gained popularity and signed Universal Records’ Lion deal in 1998.

When Juvenile and B.G. left Cash Money in the 2000s, Baby decided to start his solo career and released his label debut, Birdman, in November 2002. The album ranked #24 on the Billboard 200. After the album’s album, Baby was widely known as Birdman, and he eventually changed his stage name to that. He released his second album, Fast Money, in 2005, and it debuted on the Billboard 200 at number 9.

In 2006, Birdman and Lil Wayne released their first collaborative album, Like Father, Like Son, which was number 3 on the Billboard 200. He released his fourth studio album, Priceless, in November 2009, and 2010, he released his first official single, Fire Flame. 

Personal Life

BirdBirdman’sher Gladys Brooks died in 1975 when he was five. He has used her name in his music numerous times, including a song released under her name. His father, Johnnie, was killed in a car accident in 1996, and in 1991, his stepbrother, Eldrick Wise, was also killed in an unsolved murder.

He has two children, Bryan Jr. (1997) and Bria (1998), from a relationship with Tia during the late 1990s. In 2016, Birdman started dating the singer Toni Braxton, and they ended their relationship in 2022.
