Berk was born on August 25, 1985, in Houston, Texas, to a young mother. Later his maternal aunt, Connie, and her husband, Jerry Berk, adopted him. He was raised in Mount Vernon, Missouri. After relocating to New York City in 2003, he worked at Beth Bath & Beyond and Restoration Hardware. Later, he shifted his job to a high-end home furnishing company, Portico, where he worked as a creative director without a high school diploma or formal training.
After getting experience from there, Berk opened his online store, Bobby Berk Home, in 2006, and a year later, he opened his first store in SoHo, Manhattan. In the following years, he expanded his business by opening stores in Midtown Miami and Atlanta.
