Early Life

Bones was born to Hazel Hurt and Pamela Hurt on April 2, 1980, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. His mother gave birth to him at 15 when his father was 17. He grew up in Mountain Pine, Arkansas, and was raised by his mother and maternal grandmother. When he was 5 years old, his father left the family. 

Brones dreamed of starting his career in radio as a child because he thought it would help him escape poverty. When he was 17, he joined Henderson State University’s campus station, KSWH-FM. In 2002, he earned a B.A. in Radio/Television.

Professional Career

Brones worked as a station hand at KLAZ in Hot Spring during college. He went on the air within a few days, and his first full-time radio contract earned him $17,000. He joined Q100/KQAR in 2002. After that, he worked for the radio station KLAL. In 2003, he began hosting  The Bobby Bones Show on KHFI-FM in Austin, Texas.

At the KHFI-FM, Bobby was hired for the evening shift but later moved to mornings. During that time, he met his future co-hosts, Amy and Lunchbox. The Bobby Bones Show became a hit among audiences, and over the last ten years, it has become the top-rated morning show in Austin.

In 2012, Bones and his show moved to Nashville’s WSIX-FM studios from 5.00 a.m. to 10 a.m. on weekday mornings. The program featured interviews with top country music stars such as Luke Bryan, Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, and more. 

The following year, the program began syndicating nationally through Premiere Networks. It is now available through iHeartRadio.com and the iHeartRadio app. Currently, the pair airs on over 150 radio stations in the U.S. and Canada, with nearly 9.2 million listeners in the UK weekly.

Bones also hosted the weekly Country Top 30 with Bobby Bones, which airs on over 100 radio stations nationwide. He also hosted and performed at the annual iHeartRadio Country Festival, iHeartRadio Music Festival, and iHeartRadio Music Awards.

Apart from his radio career, Bones became part of several television shows. In 2009, he acted in the feature film Bandslam. He also starred on ABC’s Nashville and became a Live guest host! With Regis and Kelly. In 2018, he became a guest mentor for American Idol season sixteen. He hosted the competition series Snake in the Grass on USA Network in 2022.

Personal Life

Bones married Caitlin Parker in 2021. They first met on the Dancing with the Stars set.
