Baldwin was born to Carol Newcomb and Alexander Rae Baldwin Jr. on October 5, 1960, in Massapequa, New York. His mother, a cancer survivor, founded the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Care Center of the University Hospital and Medical Center at Stony Brook. His father was a high school teacher and football coach. Baldwin has five siblings, three of whom are actors Alec, William, and Stephen. His family was Catholic and had Irish and French ancestry.
Professional Career
Baldwin made his acting debut in th 1988 television film Too Good to Be True. After that, he landed minor roles in the movies Born on the Fourth of July (1989), L.A. Takedown (1989), Nothing but Trouble (1991), Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man (1991), and Knight Moves (1992). In 1989, he appeared in an episode of the series Family Ties, Charles in Charge, and CBS Summer Playhouse.
In 1990, Baldwin played the leading role of Cheezy in the sitcom Sydney on CBS, along with Valerie Bertinelli. He was cast as Detective Beau Felton in the police drama Homicide: Life on the Street, which premiered on NBC in January 1993. He left the series in 1995 after appearing in the first three seasons. During that time, he acted in the films Car 54, Where Are You? (1994), Dead on Sight (1994), and Bodily Harm (1995).
In 1995, Baldwin starred as Detective Ben Fein in the TV film Family of Corps. The following year, he became part of the feature films Mulholland Falls and Trees Lounge.
