Early Life

Zuniga was born to Agnes A. and Joaquin Alberto Zuniga in San Francisco, California, on October 28, 1962. Her mother was a Unitarian minister, and her father worked as a professor of philosophy at California State University, East Bay. She became interested in acting in her early teenage years and became part of the American Conservatory Theater of San Francisco’s Young CoFrancisco’sprogram.

After her parents’ separation, her parents and her sister moved with her mother to Reading, Vermont, where she spent her remaining teen years. She attended Woodstock Union High School in Vermont and graduated in 1980. After that, she returned to California to study theater arts at the University of California. Then, she studied acting at the Loft Studio in Los Angeles with Larry Moss and Peggy Feury.

Professional Career

Zuniga made her acting debut in the 1982 film The Dorm That Dripped Blood, playing a supporting role as a college student. The following year, she acted in the television film Quarterback Princess.

In 1984, Zuniga got her lead role as Kelly Fairchild/Terry Fairchild in Larry Stewart’s The InitiaStewart’s 1985. She was also cast in the films Vision Quest and The Sure Thing. Shortly after, she appeared as Carrie Lang in the television film Stone Pillow. She starred as Princess Vespa in Mel Brooks’s 1987 film SBrooks’ ss.

Despite its mixed reviews, it later garnered a cult following. In the following years, she played major characters in Last Rites (1988), The Fly II (1989), Staying Together (1989), and Gross Anatomy (1989).

In 1992, Zuniga starred as Jo Reynolds in the soap opera Melrose Place on Fox. She was a regular on the show until 1996, and she gained wide popularity among the television audience.

Between 1993 and 2000, Zuniga guest appeared in numerous series, including The Hidden Room, Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child, Dead Man’s Gun, The Outer Limits, and Man’sStark Raving Mad.
