Griffin was born to Doris Thomas and Eddie Griffin, Sr., on July 15, 1968, in Kansas City, Missouri, U.S. He was raised by his single mother, a phone company operator. His family were Jehovah’s Witnesses. When he was 16, he lived with his cousins in Compton, California.
