Giada was born on August 22, 1970, in Rome, Italy, the eldest child of actress Veronica De Laurentiis and Alex De Benedetti. Her maternal grandfather, Dino De Laurentiis, was a film producer. From childhood, she was interested in spending time in the kitchen and her grandfather’s restaurant, DDL Foodshow.

After her parents separated, Giada and her siblings moved to Southern California and decided to adopt their mother’s surname. She graduated from Marymount High School in Los Angeles and attended the University of California, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in social anthropology.

Professional Career

Following graduation, Giada joined Le Cordon Bleu in Paris to pursue her dream of becoming a pastry chef. When she returned to the United States, she started working as a professional chef in various restaurants. After that  she worked as a food stylist.
