Early Life
Guarini was born to Eldrin Bell and Kathy Pepino Guarini on October 28, 1978, in Columbus, Georgia. His father worked as the Chief of Police in Atlanta and the former chairperson of the Clayton County Commission in Georgia. His mother worked as a journalist for WTVM and CNN.
Guarini moved with his mother and stepfather and grew up in the Philadelphia suburb of Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He attended Central Bucks High School East. At four years old, he became interested in music and joined the Atlanta Boy Choir.
After moving to Pennsylvania, He joined the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in 1985. He also became part of school choirs and was the lead soloist in the award-winning cappella group, The Midnight Voices.
During his time in high school and college, he performed lead roles in several plays, including The Little Prince, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, The Taming of the Shrew, and The Pirates of Penzance. Apart from singing and performing, he also learned to play the piano, guitar, and banjo.
Guarini studied vocal performance and theater at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. After graduating, he moved to New York City and joined the School for Film and Television. There, he worked in New York nightclubs while auditioning for local theater productions.
Professional Career
In 2002, Guarini auditioned for American Idol’s first season and got selected. His performance on the show was widely appreciated, and he became the runner-up. Soon after, he signed a record deal with RCA. In 2003, he released his self-titled debut album, which sold 146,000 copies. The same year, he starred in the movie From Justin to Kelly along with Kelly Clarkson.
Guarini performed a role in the musical Good Vibration at Vassar College by 20,04 pre-Broadway New York Stage and Film Powerhouse Theater. In 2005, he released his second album, Stranger Things Have Happened, for which he also served as the co-producer through his own production company, Justice Entertainment Ltd.
