Early Life
Q was born to Kathy and Dennis Quigley in Honolulu, Hawaii, on May 22, 1979. Her mother is Vietnamese, and her father is of Polish and Irish descent. They met during the Vietnam War while her father was stationed there. She and her four siblings were raised Catholic.
Q went on to attend Mililani Waena Elementary School and then Wheeler Intermediate School. While at Mililani High School, she participated in cross country and track and field and joined the swim team. In her senior year, she won the “Best Body” title.
After graduating in 1997, she received an athletic scholarship to study at a private university. She decided to study veterinary science but dropped out due to a lack of finances. She left Hawathen II with the hope of earning money.

Professional Career
Q began modeling at 17 in Tokyo at a friend’s suggestion. She then moved to Taipei, Taiwan, but was unsuccessful. She then moved to Hong Kong and used the stage name Maggie Q. There, she became a protégé of Jackie Chan. Under his training, she learned professionalism and performed her stunts.
Q debuted in the Chinese horror film Model from Hell in 2000. Then she acted in the Hong Kong science fiction film Benny Chan, where she played the character of the FBI agent Jane Quigley. Her performance in that movie made an impression on Chan, and he cast her in his films Manhattan Midnight and Rush Hour 2.
In 2002, Q appeared as Charlene Ching in the action film Naked Weapon. She then starred in The Trouble-Makers in 2003 and Magic Kitchen in 2004. She briefly appeared in Jackie Chan’s 2004 movie Around the World in 80 Days. The following year, Q acted in the television film House of Harmony.
Q got her Hollywood breakthrough in Tom Cruise’s action spy film Mission: Impossible III, released in 2006. There, she starred as Zhen Lei, an IMF agent. The following year, she acted as Mai Linh in Live Free or Die Hard, the fourth installment in the Die Hard film series. She appeared as Maggie Wong in Robert Ben Garant’s sports comedy Balls of Fury.
