Early Life
Harrison was born on March 22, 1965, in Lexington, North Carolina. He is the son of Richard Benjamin Harrison Jr., who served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, and Joanne Harrison. He has three siblings: Sherry Joanne Harrison (who died at 6), Joseph Kent Harrison, and Chris Harrison.
When Harrison was two years old, his family moved to San Diego, California. At the age of 8, he had been having epileptic seizures, and that led him to stay most of the time in bed, which increased his love for books.
He also showed interest in learning physics and history. He pursued his studies at Taft Middle School but dropped out in the tenth grade to earn $2000 a week by selling fake Gucci bags. In 1981, HarriHarrison’sly shifted to Las Vegas, Nevada.
Professional Life
The Harrison family first opened the secondhand store, the Gold & Silver Coin Shop, in 1981 on Las Vegas Boulevard South. During the day, Rick Harrison worked in his forefathers, and at night, he reprocessed cars. After five years, they moved the store into a more prominent location, but later, they lost their lease.
After that, they moved their shop to Las Vegas Boulevard. In his autobiography, he describes his and his father’s struggles to open a pawn shop because Las Vegas law limits the pawn license based on the city’s laws.
After some legal struggles, the Harrisons obtained their pawn license in 1989, and in that same year, they opened the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop. By 2006, the shop started to earn a reputation for keeping unique historical sports items.
After his shop was featured in the show Insomniac with Dave Attell in 2003, Harrison started to think about creating a show about pawn shops. His effort was unsuccessful until Brent Montgomery and Colby approached him with the idea of a Pawn shop-related reality show in 2008.
The show debuted on the History Channel in 2009 and became the network’s highest-rated show. It features Rick Harrison, his father, Richard Harrison, his son, Core, and Cory’s daughter, Chumlee.
Harrison published his biography titled License to Pawn: Deals, Steals, and My Life at the Gold & Silver in 2011, and that book ranked No. 22 on The New York Times Best Seller list that year.
In 2014, he became the spokesperson for Micro Touch One Razor shaving products and appeared in the commercial. Harrison, along with Corey and Chumlee, also appeared in the History Channel’s show Pornography, and they competed against players to prevent them from winning cash and items from their Gold & Silver Pawn Shop.

Harrison married Kim when he was 17, and they welcomed their first child, Corey, in 1983. After the birth of their second child, Adam, the couple got separated. After that, he tied the knot with Tracy, and later, they divorced. Then, he married Deanna Burditt in 2013, and after seven years, they decided to separate. He has been married to Amanda Palmer since 2021.
He lives in a luxury mansion in the suburbs of Las Vegas, which he bought for $5 million.
