When he was 16, his mother gave him his first guitar. Although music fascinated him, he didn’t play it for a year. After that, he hitchhiked to Laredo carrying the guitar to find a job with his father. While in Laredo, he learned to play a classical Mariachi song, “La Malaguena,” taught by one of their neighbors.

After relocating to Stephenville, Texas, he started learning more music and playing local gigs. He attended Tarleton State University and began riding on the rodeo team.

Professional Career

Bingham, with some of his friends around Fort Worth, formed a band called Dead Horses. After one of his gigs at an empty bar in Fort Ford, Marc Ford, a member of the Black Crowes, approached him and offered to record an album. After that, he released “Wishbone Saloon” and “Dead Horses” and signed to Los Highway Records.

In 2007, he released his first major label debut, “Mescalito.” Bingham and The Dead Horses released their second studio album, Roadhouse Sun, in 2009. At that time, he performed two songs for the soundtrack of Crazy Hearts: “I Don’t Know” and “The Weary Kind.” He won Golden Globe, Grammy, and Academy Awards for the latter.

In 2010, he released his third album, Junky Star, which debuted top 10 on the Billboard Rock Album Chart and top 20 on the Billboard 200 chart. After parting ways with the Dead Horses and Lost Highway Records, he released his fourth studio album, Tomorrowland.

In 2014, he wrote and recorded the theme song for FX’s series The Bridge, “Until I’m One With You.” The same year, he acted in the film A Country Called Home and wrote and recorded the title track. His fifth studio album was released in 2015 and was mostly recorded live at Plyrz Studio.

In 2016, his first live album, Ryan Bingham Live, was recorded at Whitewater Amphitheatre in Texas and live-streamed by Amazon Music. He released his sixth studio album, American Love Song, in 2019.
