Early Life
Kinberg was born to Monica Menell-Kinberg and Jud Kinberg on August 2, 1973, in Hammersmith, London. His father was a film producer and screenwriter. When he was six years old, his family moved to Los Angeles, California. He was raised as Jewish.
He attended Brentwood High School, and after graduation, he joined Brown University, where he earned magna cum laude. After that, he resumed his studies at Columbia University and received an MFA in 2003. He also won the Zaki Gordon Fellowship for Screenwriting from there.
Professional Career
Kinberg started his career while he was in film school, as he sold a pitch to Warner Brothers. After that, he wrote scripts for Sony, Disney, and DreamWorks. During that time, he got the opportunity to work with Steven Spielberg and Jerry Bruckheimer.
Kinberg moved to Hollywood after completing his school and earned his first screenwriting credit for the action film XXX’s sequel, XXX: State of the Union. After that, he wrote a screenplay for Doug Liman’s movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith, released in 2005. He also appeared in a scene in that movie with Brad Pitt.
