41 Years Old, Kirsten Dunst Confronts The Beauty Standard of Hollywood and Expressed Emotional Imbalance Caused By Violence Scene in the Film ‘Civil War’
Whether it’s Hollywood or K-pop, the entertainment industry is ruled by labels and their representatives who always want to impose beauty standards on their artists, especially females. Aging is seen as a sin and when actresses started getting older, they started getting less appreciation and projects compared to the male actors.
Recently, Golden Globe Awards nominated actress, Kirsten Dunst unfold her thoughts about Hollywood’s double standard and the pressure of aging for an actress. 41-year-old, Kristen Dunst has worked in popular films like Little Women (1994), Jumanji (1995), Spider-Man Trilogy (2002 to 2007), and more.
As of now, the actress is busy promoting her latest film Civil War, where she has shared the screen with Wagner Moura, Jesse Plemons, Stephen McKinley, Karl Glusman, and Jefferson White. Kirsten Dunst has played the role of a photojournalist from Washington D.C. working to document the conflict between two armed factions.
While recalling the violent scene in the movie, the actress stated that the action sequences and car chase scenes shook her to the core. Not only that, but gunfire scenes, home blasts, and bombings affected her so badly, that, Kirsten had to suffer Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for almost half of a month.
Apart from that, the actress also added that when she worked with Oscar winner director, Sofia Coppola, she felt blessed and developed good relations with her. Dunst has mentioned that ‘I had Sofia Coppola at 16, who thought I was so cool and pretty when I didn’t.’
Kirsten said that the producers and labels used to impose beauty standards and tried to change her looks. She said, that when she wore a black Rodarte dress and applied dark lipstick, the studio management was unhappy with her looks and commented that the actress looked very goth.
Not only that but there were many incidents in Hollywood where A-lister actors and actresses became the victims of the industry’s double standard for women, where the production houses and label management always forces actresses to maintain thier age.
In a nutshell, not only Hollywood but the whole entertainment industry often judge women more than men. On the one hand, actresses are discouraged due to their women, the same industry appreciates the age of male actors. In addition to that, the actress also added, ‘It’s handsome to go grey for a man but for women, it’s like What do you plan to do about your wrinkles and your ageing skin?’
