In a surprising revelation, comedian Andy Samberg of The Lonely Island has claimed that actress Amy Adams turned down the opportunity to perform a “very dirty” song on Saturday Night Live in order to shield her young fans of the Disney film Enchanted.
Samberg, 46, spoke about the rejected song during a recent episode of “The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast.” He clarified that he initially pitched the sketch as a duet with Adams, 50, as she prepared to host SNL in 2008.
We were enjoying a picnic as an elderly couple when one of us suffered a scorpion’s sting. And then I’m dying or something, and the one lament on my deathbed is that we didn’t explore things more sexually in our lives, and it’s this huge up-anthem about that,” Samberg said.
However, despite finding the concept humorous, Adams expressed concern about the potential impact on her young fans, who were “so obsessed with Enchanted.” In Samberg’s words, Adams told the group, “Little girls are so obsessed with Enchanted right now. They will find this and be scarred, and I can’t mix that now.”
Instead, Adams and The Lonely Island worked together on a different digital short, “Hero’s Song,” in which Samberg played a superhero who suffers injuries while attempting to foil an Adams robbery.
Samberg recalled being impressed by Adams’ thoughtfulness and responsibility toward her Enchanted fanbase. “Within five minutes, a mother and her little girl approached, and the expression on the little girl’s face upon seeing Amy Adams made me realize that she was absolutely correct,” Samberg recalled.
“It was very instructive for me. It’s not something I even ever thought about in our line of work, you know what I mean? She genuinely has a duty and a responsibility towards those children, and she approached it with great diligence. I recall being deeply impressed by her commitment to those children.
Adams’ recent cinematic work has allowed her to venture beyond fairytale explorations, with the actress recently revealing she grew out her own chin hair for her role in the upcoming film Nightbitch. However, her sense of duty toward her younger fans remains strong, as evidenced by this latest revelation about her refusal to participate in the risqué SNL sketch.
