Cailee Spaeny and Josh O’Connor Will Star in ‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’
The title of the third installment of Knives Out was announced just last week. Now, as per the reports, some big names have been added to the next sequel to the movie. Josh O’Connor and Cailee Spaeny will join in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
The details regarding their character are currently under wraps. The title of the sequel was revealed by Netflix via the TUDUM site. Rian Johnson also shared the 45-second video on his official X account, which showcases the title. It was also confirmed that Daniel Craige would return as Benoit Blanc.
After the title was announced, Johnson posted a statement on social media. He said, “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is.”
He also added, “There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”
He expressed his excitement by sharing the title and continued that the production of the sequel will start soon.
Ryan Johson will write and direct the forthcoming sequel. He will also produce the film along with Ram Bergman. The plot details of the movie are currently unknown. We expect the filming to commence next month, with a projected release date of 2025. The list of additional cast members is likely to be announced in the coming days.
The first movie in the franchise, Knives Out, was released in 2019 and became a huge financial success. It grossed $312.9 million at the worldwide box office. The sequel was announced in March 2021, and Netflix bought the rights to two more sequels for $469 million.
The sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, premiered on Netflix in 2022 after a limited theatrical release. It also became a success on the platform with its clever storytelling and strong performances by the cast.
Josh O’Connor got a breakthrough by playing the role in the film God’s Own Country. He portrayed Prince Charles in The Crown, for which he won the Emmy Award and the Golden Globe. Recently, he appeared in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers as one of the main leads. His upcoming project is The History of Sound, directed by Oliver Hermanus.
Spaeny recently appeared as the titular character in the film Priscilla. She also featured in the war film, Civil War. Her upcoming film is Alien: Romulus, directed by Fede Álvarez.
