Chris Hemsworth Admits ‘I Became A Parody’ in Thor: Love and Thunder

In Vanity Fair’s cover story, Chris Hemsworth shared his disappointment with his performance in Thor: Love and Thunder. He expressed his regret for the portrayal of his role, particularly the comedic elements. While talking to the portal, the actor said in character, “I became a parody of myself and didn’t stick the landing.”

As per Vanity Fair, the director Taika Waititi decided to show the character’s comedic side in Thor: Ragnarok. Initially, the actor was praised for his hilarious performance, and Hemsworth used the same tone in Love and Thunder. However, it was not accepted by the audience well.

The actor said he was frustrated for repeatedly playing the same character. He played the same role in four Marvel films and Avengers movies.  In the article, he hoped to deliver better performance in future Thor Films.

The Extractor actor said that he was obsessed with trying to build his career and became exhausted. He continued that he was worried about everything, and nothing was as enjoyable as before.

Hemsworth was also expected to act in roles other than action films and was interested in working with directors such as Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, Greta Gerwig, Kathryn Bigelow, and Martin Scorsese. He is also interested in doing a movie with Brad Pitt.

Hemsworth’s co-star, Robert Downey, disagreed with the statement regarding Hemsworth’s character. The actor who played Iron Man in the Marvel series said that Thor was tricky to adapt and had a lot of limitations. But Hemsworth figured it out and went beyond the limit. Downey added that Hemsworth has the most complex psyche of all of us Avengers.

Thor: Love and Thunder, released in July 2021, was directed and written by Waititi. The expectations of the movie were high because of the success of Thor: Ragnarok. However, the film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Most of them felt that the film needed more depth of character development and was criticized for the underdeveloped plot and the jokes in a serious story.

The film’s cast includes Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Russel Crowe, Natalie Portman, and Taika Waititi.

Hemsworth was cast as the superhero Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2011, and it became the 15th highest-grossing film of 2011. The critics praise his character as God of Thunder. After that, he appeared in four Avengers movies and three Thor sequels.
