Cynthia Nixon Addresses Sara Ramirez’s Departure From ‘And Just Like That’

Cynthia Nixon, who played the character of Miranda Hobbes in Sex and the City and its spin-off series ‘And Just Like That’, shared her thoughts about Sara Ramirez’s exit. Ramirez portrayed the role of Che Diaz, a love interest of Miranda, in the series.

In a recent interview with Variety, Nixon said, “They created such an amazing character—such a controversial character, but such an amazing character.”

She further added, “I think they felt, and Michael Patrick King felt, that that character had run its course,” and continued, “They came in and shook everything up, and then the arc was completed.”

The report about Ramirez’s decision not to return to the third season, And Just Like That, came in February. The news came a few weeks after Ramirez called the Hollywood industry “so duplicitous” in a statement shared on her social media account. However, Variety reported that her character came to a natural conclusion.

Che appeared as Carrie Bradshaw’s friend and colleague, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, and they worked together on a podcast. Che and Miranda soon crossed paths and began an extramarital affair. After that, Miranda ended her marriage with Steve and started a relationship with the comedian.

At the end of the first season, Miranda and Che went to Los Angeles, where Che was busy shooting for a comedy pilot. The second season showcased the couple’s worsening relationship, and in the conclusion, they broke up.

Ramirez is not the only actor who fans won’t see in the third season. Karen Pittman, who portrayed Nya Wallace, Miranda’s professor-turned-roommate, confirmed her departure from Mach. She exited the show due to her scheduling conflict.

In a conversation with ET, a spokesperson for Max talked about their working experience with Pittman. They said, “It has been a joy to have Karen Pittman play the smart and stunning Professor Nya Wallace on the first two seasons of And Just Like That.”

The spokesperson also revealed the reason for Pittman’s departure by stating, “Due to her commitments to two other streaming series, it has become apparent that filming three shows at once isn’t possible.”

Apart from the exit, some new faces will be seen in the upcoming season of ‘And Jus Like That’. Rosie O’Donnel revealed that she will appear in the series as the character named Mary by sharing a photo of the episode’s script on her Instagram account and captioning, “Here comes Mary.”
