The cancellation of Dua Lipa’s scheduled concert in Jakarta, Indonesia this Saturday, November 9th, has left her “heartbroken”. The pop superstar informed her fans of the disappointing news, stating that the stage setup was considered unsafe for the performance to continue.
Dua Lipa shared on her Instagram stories, “I am heartbroken to share that I won’t be able to perform in Jakarta this Saturday, November 9.” As part of her Radical Optimism world tour, the singer had scheduled a performance at the Indonesia Arena.
Dua expressed her disappointment over having to cancel the show, saying, “I am here in your amazing country and ready to perform, but I am gutted to share that it has been determined that it is not safe for the performance to carry on due to safety issues with the staging.”
The “Don’t Start Now” hitmaker acknowledged that many of her Indonesian fans had been eagerly awaiting this concert, noting, “I was so looking forward to this night, and it truly pains me that we cannot perform for you all, especially after such a long time since my last performance in Jakarta.”
Dua assured ticket holders that they would receive refunds and vowed to return to Indonesia as soon as possible. “I love you all and truly can’t wait to be back together in the same room with you singing and dancing our hearts out as soon as possible,” she wrote.
The 29-year-old global superstar was scheduled to kick off the Asian leg of her Radical Optimism tour in Jakarta on November 9th before heading to the Philippines, South Korea, and other stops across the continent. Unfortunately, safety concerns with the stage setup forced her to make the difficult decision to cancel the Jakarta show.
In May 2023, Dua Lipa released her third studio album, Radical Optimism, and has been touring extensively in support of it. The singer’s desire to find the positives in all her life experiences, even the challenges, inspired the record.
“It was just so much about learning from every experience, taking everything as a lesson or seeing it as a gift in some way,” Dua said in a recent interview. “Whether it was good or bad, I just appreciate that even from some bad situations, something great can come of it, or I can grow to be a better or stronger person from all of it,” Dua said in a recent interview.
The Radical Optimism tour has seen Dua Lipa perform hit songs like “Houdini,” “Cold Heart,” and “Don’t Start Now” for adoring audiences around the world. However, safety concerns, deemed too risky to proceed, have now led to the cancellation of the Jakarta stop.
Dua expressed her deep regret over having to make this call, acknowledging, “It truly hurts me that we cannot perform for you all.” But the singer’s commitment to the safety and wellbeing of her fans is clear, as she refused to take the stage under unsafe conditions.
While Dua Lipa fans in Indonesia will have to wait a bit longer to see their idol perform live, the pop star assured them that she “truly can’t wait to be back together in the same room” as soon as possible. With the Jakarta show canceled, Dua will next take the Radical Optimism tour to the Philippines on November 13th, before heading to South Korea in early December to wrap up her 2023 tour dates.
