Dwayne Johnson Suffers Elbow Injury on the Set of ‘The Smashing Machine’
Dwayne Johnson suffered an elbow injury while filming for his new movie, The Smashing Machine. On Tuesday, the actor disclosed the details of his injury through a video on his Instagram account.
In that video, he said that he hurt his right elbow during the shooting of the sports biopic. He started the video by saying, “As you guys know, I’m filming a movie called The Smashing Machine,” and continued, “And anytime your film is called The Smashing Machine, well, you’re kind of going to get smashed up.”
Then he showed the swollen area of his elbow and continued, “Look at that sucker right there. It looks like I have a cantaloupe in the bottom of my elbow.”
Johnson further stated that he “got banged up pretty good” for the scene and pointed out that “there might be some soft tissue damage” to his swollen area. He continued that he couldn’t find out how bad the damage was until the fluid drained out and that he needed to take an MRI.
While reflecting on his injury, he shared some wisdom from his late father and wrestler, Rocky Johnson, by stating, “He always used to say, ‘A day without pain is like a day without sunshine, boy,'”
The actor then solicited advice from his followers about treatment options by displaying various medicinal bottles. After he showed a Teremana Tequila bottle, which launched in 2020, he humorously added that it was his “favorite anti-inflammatory.”
Johnson played the character of Mark Kerr, a former wrestler and two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion, in the biographical sports film. Kerr Nick earned the nickname ‘The Smashing Machine’ due to his aggressive fighting style. The film will explore his fighting career, struggle with drug addiction, and journey of love and friendship.
Johnson acted in the film alongside Emily Blunt, who will portray Merk Kerr’s wife, Dawn Staples. The other cast includes Oleksandr Usyk, Lyndsey Gavin, Zoe Kosovic, and Ryan Bader.
Benny Safdie, known for directing the films Heaven Knows What, Good Time, and Uncut Gems, will direct and write the film. Johnson is producing the movie under his Seven Bucks Production, along with Safdie, Eli Bush, and David Koplan.
Filming began last month in May, following the announcement of the film in December 2023. The filming locations include Los Angeles, New Mexico, Vancouver, and Tokyo. It will be scheduled for release in theaters in December 2024.
