Ella Emhoff is the daughter of Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff and stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris. Since President Joe Biden’s inauguration in January 2021, where Emhoff wore a Miu Miu coat with glittering embellishments on the shoulders, Emhoff has become a mainstay at several fashion events and has even walked the runway.
Following her Inauguration Day appearance, Emhoff signed with IMG Models. She then made her runway debut during the Proenza Schouler fall 2021 ready-to-wear collection showcase at New York Fashion Week in February 2021. She also returned to modeling for the same fashion week in 2022. Emhoff also attended the Met Gala in September 2021, wearing an Adidas by Stella McCartney ensemble. During 2024 New York Fashion Week, the model walked the outdoor runway for Coach.
When it comes to her approach to fashion and her own designs—knit items made of yarn, which she shares via her social media platforms—EEmhoff told Elle in 2021 that she’s focused on seeing the industry at large become more sustainable. This resourceful mindset is evident in her collaboration with Doublesoul on a collection of sustainable socks, as it aligns with her values of eco-friendly fashion and resourcefulness.
“I strive to source my yarns as sustainably as possible, whether it’s by visiting stores that discard all their yarn, collaborating with other brands to obtain their excess yarn, or utilizing yarn I’ve owned since my childhood.” It’s made me think more resourcefully about the ways that I want to package things… It’s made me ask myself, ‘Is this cool, and is this helpful?’ It’s been a big influence,” she said.
2024 Election: Kamala Harris’ Stepdaughter Ella Emhoff Breaks Silence in Donald Trump’s Win Ella Emhoff is sharing her thoughts on the 2024 US election results. Following former President Donald Trump’s victory over current Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee’s stepdaughter reacted to the outcome in an Instagram Story post on November 7th.
“There are truly no words,” the 25-year-old, whose father is Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, wrote alongside a photo of herself watching Harris’ concession speech. “We are all going to get through this. Right now, the pain is unbearable, but that’s okay.
“The fight doesn’t stop now,” she continued. “Please check in on your people right now.” This is the time to organize, mobilize, and make a difference in your communities, big or small.” Ella wrapped the message, writing, “I’m here for all of you, and I love you guys.” Ella Emhoff Shows Off Her Knitting Skills With a Call to Vote for Kamala Harris
Ella Emhoff is using her knitting skills to make sure everyone is getting out to vote—particularly for her stepmother, Vice President Kamala Harris. On Instagram, the 25-year-old posted an image of a knitted “I Voted” piece with an American flag on a white background. She put a very direct call to action for her followers in the caption. “Have you voted yet? Have you checked in to see if your friends and family have voted?” she wrote. “Vote for the future you want and the change you want to see.
If this election doesn’t impact you (which at this point affects us all around the world), vote for the people it does. We need to protect our rights, our planet, and our communities.” She ended the call, making it clear which candidate she was referring to. “There is only one option for any positive change, and that’s Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.”
Emhoff has become somewhat of a staple in fashion over the last four years since being thrust into the spotlight at Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration, not just because of her knitting skills, which she has shown off through brand collaborations and a knitwear collective called Soft Hands but also because of her work as a model and her personal style. During fashion week, she walked the runway for Coach and sat front row at some other shows too.
At several political events, Emhoff showed how you can use fashion to make a statement about your beliefs and values, championed young sustainable designers, and wore the famous merchandise for the Harris-Walz campaign. With only one day remaining until the voting ends on November 6, it’s safe to assume that Ella Emhoff will be considering her potential next role if Harris wins: First Daughter. First Daughter.
