Ellen DeGeneres Confirms Her Return for Final Stand-Up Special with Netflix
Ellen DeGeneres is set to return to her final Stand-up Special with streaming giant Netflix. After six years, this will be her second stand-up comedy special with the streaming service.
She announced her return through a press release and hinted that she could talk about the workplace allegation against her in 2020. In the press release, she states, “To answer the questions everyone is asking me—Yes, I’m going to talk about it,” and Gabourey Sidibe.
She also added, “Yes, this is my last special. Yes, Portia really is that pretty in real life.”
The former talk show host first appeared on Netflix in 2018 with her stand-up special, Relatable. The streamer announced that her new show, produced by Ben Winston and Fulwell 73, will premiere later this year.
The VP of stand-up comedy format at Netflix, Robbie Praw, said, “There is nobody quite like Ellen. She is a true legend and pioneer in so many ways.” He also shared his excitement about bringing her to another show for the fans.
Ellen DeGeneres is a comedian and TV host whose talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, garnered worldwide popularity from 2003 to 2022. In 2020, she faced controversies regarding a toxic workplace environment after an article published in BuzzFeed News.
In that report, the anonymous former employees in her show alleged the incidents, including sexual misconduct, harassment, and assault from the work site. The ex-employees also claimed that DeGeneres’s kind attitude is just for the show.
After that accusation, Warner Bros. conducted an internal investigation, and many key executives were fired from the show. DeGeneres took responsibility for the toxic workplace and apologized to her staff through a Zoom meeting. She also addressed the controversy in the season 18 premiere to the audience.
In May 2021, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, DeGeneres announced that the show would end after season 19. She also added that she decided to end the season after season 16, but they wanted to sign for four more seasons.
After the end of her talk show, DeGeneres stayed out of the limelight and concentrated on her personal life. She recently made a comeback with a stand-up gig in Los Angeles, where she opened up about the impact of controversy in her life.
She talked about how it changed her public image: “The hate went on for a long time and I would try to avoid looking at the news.”
