In a shocking revelation, renowned actress Eva Longoria has disclosed that she and her family have moved out of the United States, describing the country as “dystopian.” Speaking to Marie Claire, the Desperate Housewives star shared her reasons for leaving the US behind, citing the country’s changing “vibe” even before the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I had my whole adult life here,” Longoria said. “But even before the pandemic, it was changing,” Longoria said. The vibe was different. The COVID-19 pandemic further escalated the situation. Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to shit on California—it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”
Longoria acknowledged her privileged position, stating, “I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness are for them.”
The recent presidential election, according to the actress, further solidified their decision to divide their time between Mexico and Spain. Longoria, who had campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris, expressed her disappointment in the outcome, stating, “The shocking part is not that he won. It’s that a convicted criminal who spews so much hate could hold the highest office.”
Reflecting on her past reactions to the election results, Longoria shared, “I’ve never been depressed in my life. It was like, ‘Does my vote really matter? Am I really making a difference?’ I was deeply rooted in my belief that the strongest individual prevails. When that happened, I was taken aback. The best person doesn’t win.'”
Despite her disillusionment, Longoria remains hopeful that the fight will continue. “I would like to think our fight continues,” she told Marie Claire, although she acknowledged that “if [Trump] keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place.”
As Longoria settles into her new life abroad, her message serves as a stark reminder of the growing divide within the United States and the privilege afforded to those who can choose to leave. Her decision to escape the “dystopian” conditions of her home country has sparked conversations about the state of the nation and the challenges faced by those who feel trapped within it.
