Halle Berry Recalls Her Role in ‘The Flintstones’ on Its 30th Anniversary
Halle Berry recalled her performance in The Flintstines on its 30th anniversary, which was released in 1994. She noted how her character was a big step for black women in the film industry.
She posted a video on her Instagram account on Sunday and reacted to a few scenes from the film. She captioned, “You guys message me every year about “The Flintstones” film, so I thought I’d do something special for the 30th anniversary.”
She further wrote, “Love you all for loving Miss Stone all this time.”
In that video, she said that on the 30th anniversary of the movie, it would be cool to look back on some scenes. She also revealed that she hadn’t watched the film in 20 years.
Berry played the role of Sharon Stone, who is the seductive secretary of Fred Flintstone, in the film. Berry reacted to the first clip, which shows Sharon Stone’s introduction to Flintstone. Berry pointed out the film’s music. She also described her voice as “so young me” and her hairstyle as an “iconic hairdo.”
She continued, “Being a black woman in Bedrock seemed like a little thing. But The Flintstones was the fabric of our culture.” She also added, “I knew that this was a big step forward for Black people, Black women especially.”
Berry’s character was originally intended for real-life Sharon Stone, but she couldn’t be part of the film due to scheduling conflicts. The Flintstone is part of pop culture, and Berry mentioned her character’s importance in the film.
She said, “While it was silly and over the top and campy,” and concluded the video by stating, “I knew how important this little part in this big movie actually would be.”
In 2022, Berry expressed her love for her character. She wrote on X, “Everyone said, ‘oh why would you want to do a movie based on a cartoon?'” She further added, “To see 28 years later, that this character has become so beloved and has resonated with so many of you is so gratifying. draped in brown, but Miss Stone is still the blueprint.”
The Flintstones was released in 1994, based on the 1960s animated series of the same name. John Goodman and Elizabeth Perkin played the lead, with Kyle MacLan as the antagonist. Halle Berry played the secondary antagonist.
After her role in The Flintstone, Berry acted in several movies, including the X-Men film series, Die Another Day, Catwoman, and The Call. Her performance in Monster’s Ball grabbed her an Academy Award for Best Actress.
