How I Met Your Mother Cast: Then And Now
How I Met Your Mother is a romantic comedy sitcom created by Craig Thomas and Carter Bays. It premiered on CBS between 2005 and 2014. The series follows Ted Mosby, who recalled his story to his children about how he met their mother. The story then travels through flashbacks to 2005, when Ted is 27 years old and lives in New York City with his best friends, where he starts the adventure to find the love of his life.
The show ran for nine seasons and became successful; this led to the creation of its spin-off series, How I Met Your Father, which starred Hilary Duff and featured the original cast in cameo roles.
How I Met Your Mother celebrated its 18th anniversary in 2023. The cast of the series includes Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Niel Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan, and Cristin Milioti.
Josh Radnor as Ted Mosby
Josh Radnor played the lead role of Ted Mosby, who is an architect in N.Y.C and lives with his friends. After the show ended, he began playing Dr. Jedediah Foster in the series Mercy Street. He has been part of several series, including Rise, Hunters, and Fleishman. Recently, he appeared in the theater play The Ally, directed by Lila Neugerbauer.
Jason Segel as Marshall Eriksen
Jason Segel’s character Marshall Erikson is Ted’s best friend from college. He has been part of numerous films, including Our Friend, The End of the Tour, Sex Tape, and The Five-Year Engagement.
He began to play the character of a therapist in the series Shrinking, for which he earned an Emmy Award nomination.
Cobie Smulders as Robin Scherbatsky
Cobie Smuldgers played the role of Robin, a Canadian TV host. Later, she got famous for her character as Maria Hill in various MCU projects, in which she first appeared in The Avengers (2012). Smuldgers’ films include The Lego Movie, Safe Haven, The Intervention, and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.
She also acted in several series, including A Series of Unfortunate Events, Stumptoen, and Friends from College. She recently appeared in the series Secret Invasion and the final episode of How I Met Your Father.
Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson
Neil Patrick Harris played the character of Barney Stinson, a womanizer. After that, he appeared in films including Gone Girl, A Million Ways to Die, and The Smurfs.
He also acted in the Netflix series A Series of Unfortunate Events and the fourth installment of The Matrix. He last appeared on the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Special.
Alyson Hannigan as Lily Aldrin
Alyson Hannigan appeared in the series as a kindergarten teacher and Marshell’s wife. She is best known for her characters in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and American Pie.
She also voiced in the animated show Fancy Nancy and hosted Penn & Teller: Fool Us.
Cristin Milioti as The Mother
The titular ‘Mother’ character, Ted’s wife and their children’s mother, was played by Cristin Milioti. After HIMYM, she appeared in the NBC series A to Z. She is also part of the series Fargo, Black Mirror, The Midy Project, and more.
