Knives Out 3: Rian Johnson Unveils First Look of Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc
Rian Johnson shared the first look photo of Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc in the second sequel to the Knives Out movie. On Monday, the directors posted a photo of Craig with a new look from the film on his social media account.
The black-and-white photo features Craig’s detective Blank, wearing a three-piece suit with long hair and holding a hat in his hand. Johnson wrote in the post, “Aaaaand we’re off! Today is day 1 of shooting on the next Benoit Blanc mystery “Wake Up Dead Man” – see you on the other side.”

The third installment in the movie was first announced in March 2021, after Netflix grabbed the rights for two sequels. The second sequel’s development started in 2023.
Johnson confirmed the title of the upcoming movie in May by sharing a clip on his social media account. In the video, the voiceover said that this would be Blanc’s “most dangerous case yet.” Crag’s return, as Blanc also confirmed in the video, has a 2025 release window.
After revealing the title, Johnson shared his excitement about the third film. He wrote, “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is,” and continued, “There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”
The plot details for the upcoming movie are currently unknown; however, it will be another mysterious, puzzling case for Blanc. The cast list for the film has already been announced, and it features a star-studded cast including Josh O’Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Andrew Scott, Kerry Washington, Jeremy Renner, Glenn Close, Daryl McCormack, Mila Kunis, Josh Brolin, and more.
Rian Johnson writes and directs the film. He also produced the film along with Ram Bergman and Katie McNeill. The principal photography of the film started on June 10 in London, and it is expected to be released on Netflix in 2025.
The first film in the Knives Out franchise was released in 2019 and became a huge success at the box office. With a budget of $40 million, the film collected $312.9 million worldwide. After that, Netflix acquired the rights to the sequels for $469 million. The second film, titled Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, was released on Netflix in December 2022 after a limited theatrical release.
