Martha Stewart, the renowned lifestyle icon, has definitively shut down the possibility of her starring in “The Golden Bachelorette,” citing the appearance of the male contestants as the primary deterrent.
During an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” the 83-year-old entrepreneur and media personality made her position clear when asked about the prospect of leading the reality dating franchise.
“Absolutely not,” Stewart replied bluntly when host Andy Cohen posed the question. When Cohen followed up by asking if she would reconsider for $1 million per episode, Stewart’s response left no room for ambiguity.
“No, the guys aren’t hot enough,” she stated matter-of-factly, drawing laughter from her fellow guest, rapper Snoop Dogg. Snoop Dogg chimed in, quipping, “It ain’t about money; it’s about how hot the guys are.”
Stewart’s candid assessment of the male participants on “The Golden Bachelorette” has sparked a response from the show’s current leading lady, Joan Vassos. The 61-year-old private school administrator revealed that she has already reached out to Stewart via direct message, defending the suitors and inviting the lifestyle maven to the season finale.
“I DM’d her last night. I don’t know if she’s read it yet, but I did,” Vassos told Access Hollywood. “I said, ‘Dating is hard out there, and I had a great group of guys.’ She doesn’t know them like I know them. Both the inside and outside are great, as I learned.”
Vassos went on to praise the production team’s efforts in selecting the 24 contestants, describing them as “special guys” whose “backstories” and “what they’re about” impressed her. “I feel like everyone’s falling in love with them. I’m like, ‘What’s wrong with you, Martha?'” Vassos continued, expressing her surprise at Stewart’s dismissive attitude.
Stewart’s comments echo those of another prominent figure who has declined the opportunity to lead “The Golden Bachelorette”—veteran talk show host Kathie Lee Gifford. Gifford cited concerns about the show’s emphasis on physical attraction and intimacy as the primary reasons for her disinterest.
It’s unclear whether Stewart will accept Vassos’ invitation or stick to her stance on the suitability of the male participants as “The Golden Bachelorette” continues its inaugural season. Nonetheless, the legendary Martha Stewart’s rejection of the franchise has certainly added a new layer of intrigue to the ongoing conversation surrounding the show’s appeal and viewership.
