Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves Celebrate Their 12th Wedding Anniversary by Sharing a Sweet Post
Matthew McConaughey and Camil Alves are in their 12th year of marriage. On Sunday, the actor shared a post on his Instagram account for his wife to celebrate their special occasion, and later Camila shared her Instagram page.
The close-up photo featured the actor kissing his wife’s forehead affectionately. He was spotted wearing a cowboy hat and jean jacket. He captioned it, “Thank you, #happyanniversary.”
McConaughey and Alves first met in 2006 at the West Hollywood nightclub Hyde. The actor revealed about his first meeting with his wife to People. He said, “It was as if she was floating. And I did not say, ‘Who is that?’ I said, ‘What is that?’ And then introduced myself.”
He continued, “Since that evening, I have not wanted to spend time with any other woman.”
Alves also recalled their first interaction, stating that she didn’t recognize him as he was all covered up.
McConaughey also talked about their first date; he said, “We went out on our first date three nights later and I knew then that the next night I wanted to go on another date,” and continued, “And I’ve been wanting to go on a date with her for the last nine years. And not with anybody else.”
In 2007, the pair confirmed their relationship, and in 2008, they made their red carpet debut together at the Fool’s Gold premiere. They welcomed their first child, Levi, in July 2008, and their second child, Vida, in January 2010.
In 2012, the couple tied the knot at their home in Austin after six years of togetherness. Alves shared that their children, Levi and Vida, participated as ring bearers and flower girls in their wedding. She said to People, “[They] seemed to understand what we were doing on a spiritual level.”
Mathew added, “We decided to embrace the ritual of marriage as an opportunity and adventure we’ll take together.”
The couple welcomed their third child, Livingston, in December 2012. During McConaughey’s first Academy Award speech in 2014, he thanked his family by stating, “You are the four people in my life I want to make the most proud of me.”
During a conversation with People, he was asked about what he loved most about his wife, and he said, “The self-respect she had, the way I understood her and her relationship with family, the way she respected me but never took anything for granted, not putting on any airs whatsoever.”
