Netflix Cancels ‘My Dad the Bounty Hunter’ After Two Seasons
The hit animated series, My Dad the Bounty Hunter, will not return for another season on Netflix. The streaming platform canceled the series after two seasons. The series Downing Jr. confirmed the news, as per What’s On Netflix.
The second season premiered in August 2023, and since then, there have been speculations about its return, as fans were expecting that the streaming giant would renew the series for another season. But Netflix chose to discontinue the show, which will be disappointing news for its followers.
Downing Jr. expressed his feelings about the cancellation of the show on What’s On Netflix. He said, “I feel extremely fortunate to have been able to work with such an incredible team of partners and artists.”
He also added, “Everyone who worked on the show fell in love with” the characters in the series, and continued, “Who knows, maybe I’ll be able to revisit this world again someday. For now, these characters and stories will be living rent-free in my heart for the rest of my life.”
The adventure action series My Dad the Bounty Hunter was created and written by Everrett Downing Jr. and Patrick Harpin. The first season premiered in February 2023, and the second season was in August 2023. The series follows two kids, Lisa and Sean, who sneak into their father’s business trip and find out the secret that he is a bounty hunter in space.
The voice cast of the series is filled with talented actors, including Laz Alonso, Yvonne Orji, JeCobi Swain, and Priah Ferguson. The additional voice cast includes Yvette Nicole Brown, Rob Riggle, Kari Wahlgren, Jamie Chung, Maddie Taylor, and Leslie Uggams.
The series gained good viewership on Netflix, and a week after the second season premiere, it ranked in the global top 10 list for English-language series. Following the release of the first season, it acquired a position twice in Nielsen’s top 10 original streaming series. According to the 2023 Netflix report, season 1 has 86.5 million view hours over 10 months, and season 2 has 26.7 million hours in 3.5 months.
The series generally got positive reviews from critics for its relatable storyline, portrayal of characters, and social commentary. Rotten Tomatoes gave the series a 100% approval rating.
In recent years, Netflix has dropped several shows for kids and families. It canceled several animated series, including Oddballs, He-Man, and Masters of the Universe.
