Netflix Unveils First Look Liam Hemsworth as Gerald of Rivia in The Witcher Season 4
Netflix unveiled the first look of Liam Hemsworth as Gerald of Rivia in the fourth season of The Witcher. Henry Cavill portrayed the iconic role in the first three seasons, but after his exit, he was replaced by Hemsworth.
The first-look footage was released on May 22. The teaser features Gerald walking with his horse on a foggy night. He turns around when he hears the growl, revealing the character’s new face. Netflix shared the video on social media with the caption, “The journey continues. Here’s your first look at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia in THE WITCHER.”
After the teaser release, many fans expressed their sadness about Cavill’s exit and doubt about Hemsworth’s capability to become a complex character like Witcher. However, they have some similarities in their look, as Hemsworth chose the same hairstyle as Cavill.
The showrunner, Lauren S. Hissrich, said to Entertainment Weekly, “His look has been in development for over a year, so it’s thrilling to finally share an official sneak peek of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia.”
She added, “Cast and crew alike have been struck by the passion, energy, and embodiment Liam has brought to the character from Day 1 – scruffy beard, iconic scar, and all!”
After three seasons, Netflix announced Cavill’s exit from the series in October 2022. He wrote in his post, “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures,”
He explained that Hemsworth is taking his character by stating, “In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf.”
Hemsworth also expressed his excitement for playing the character in The Witcher. “As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,”
He was also enthusiastic about the opportunity to play Geralt: “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure.”
He additionally praised Cavill’s performance: “Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character.”
Laurence Fishburne, Sharlto Copley, Danny Woodburn, and James Puefoy are the additional new cast members joining the fourth season. Season 4’s production is currently underway, and in April, Netflix announced the fifth and final season of the series.
